A latest report shows China was pledged 10.04 billion yuan (about 1.578 billion U.S. dollars) in overseas charitable donations in 2009, with 7.64 billion yuan having been received.
The overseas donations took up 18.5 percent of the total donations of 54.2 billion yuan in 2009, according to the report published by China Charity and Donation Information Center (CCDIC) last week.
According to the report, nearly 50 percent of the overseas donations were from Hong kong, Macao, Taiwan and overseas Chinese. Hong Kong alone donated 3.476 billion yuan, remaining the mainland's largest donator.
Overseas-funded enterprises in the mainland remained the largest source of donations, contributing 5.034 billion yuan.
Foreign governments donated 44.64 million yuan mainly for the reconstruction in the areas devastated by an 8.0-magnitude earthquake in 2008.
International organizations and overseas non-governmental organizations donated 1.94 billion yuan, while overseas individuals donated 911 million yuan.
