Chinese farmers are evolving, according to the Blue Book of China's Society 2011 issued by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences(CASS) Wednesday,news.china.com.cn reported.
The blue book says China has finished the transition from the planned economy to market economy and is changing rapidly from an agricultural society to an industrial one. As a result, some of its farmers have started working in urban areas and at non-agricultural sections.
The agricultural industry is also changing. Large-scale farming is emerging from traditional agriculture based on household contracts of farmland.
The blue book predicts that as the system of farmland transfer keeps improving and plots of farmland are being joined together, Chinese farmers will turn into independent operators of the modern agricultural industry.
