China's top economic planner urged Wednesday local governments to step up efforts to ensure energy supplies amid the peak season of energy consumption.
Relevant authorities should ramp up efforts to ease possible shortages in coal, power, oil and gas supplies in some areas, which are expected to be triggered by bad weather and other uncertain factors, the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) said in a statement on its website.
The NDRC also ordered relevant authorities to increase their efforts in stabilizing coal prices and preventing a sharp rebound of power consumption in the energy-guzzling and polluting industries.
Many parts of China are currently suffering from cold weather as winter sets in. Meteorological authorities renewed a cold wave alert on Wednesday, forecasting heavy snow to hit most areas in the nation's south regions while low temperature will continue in some parts of the nation's north areas in the next 24 hours.
