A troubled marriage in Dalian, Liaoning province, was saved by the wrong character having been printed on the couple's marriage certificate.

The wife, surnamed Li, had complained about her husband's drinking, which often resulted in him hitting her and the children.

When Li reached the point where she could not bear the situation any further, she asked her husband for a divorce. However, a divorce was denied at the civil affairs bureau, because the name on Li's ID card was slightly different from that on the couple's marriage certificate.

The husband was overjoyed by this turn o f events and promised to cherish his family. His wife agreed to give him one more chance.
