Private hospital offers 'set menu' for teen abortions

Many hotlines for such pregnancies in Beijing are run by private hospitals, where most of the staff are not qualified, but simply want to promote their abortion services.
Long Chunling, a psychologist at the Second Hospital of Beijing said that nowadays teenagers find help on the internet, from classmates or a hotline service.
"They'd rather resort to strangers on the internet, or psychologists, than their parents." Long said.
One online comment showed that teens feared their parents' reaction to a daughter's pregnancy.
And another survey made by Beijing Municipal Women's Federation shows that 74 percent of parents avoid discussing sex with their children – with only 3 percent saying they would explain the facts of life to them.
Xiao Yang, head of the Women's Studies Institute of China, said there are three types of misguided attitudes displayed by parents: the first type don't know how to answer, the second think their children can learn by themselves, and the third refuse to answer such questions.
Unfortunately, the country's schools do not offer any sex education. Xiao Mi said that during her junior middle school, her physical education teacher gave them physiological lessons – but she doesn't remember much of what they were taught.
Research conducted by the Chinese Academy of Pediatrics reveals that Chinese girls nowadays begin puberty at about 9 years of age – 5 years before the last generation.
All this means that teenagers do not understand enough about human sexuality – and this results in problems such as unwanted teen pregnancies.
