Litigants either withdrew lawsuits or reconciled with the other party after court mediation in nearly 8.3 million civil cases in China in the 30 months ending June this year, China's chief justice, Wang Shengjun, said Wednesday.
The 8.3 million cases accounted for more than 61 percent of all civil cases concluded in the period, Wang said in his report delivered to the bimonthly session of China's top legislature.
Wang, president of the Supreme People's Court (SPC), said the percentage was an "increase" after Chinese courts made mediation a priority for civil cases. But he did not say compared to what the figure had increased.
Court mediation is playing a positive role in resolving social conflict and managing society, he said at the 17th Session of the Standing Committee of the 11th National People's Congress (NPC).
Separately, Wang said nearly 66,900 intellectual property rights-related cases were concluded in Chinese courts in same period.
