More than 900 geological disasters, including landslides, cave-ins and mud-rock flows, happened in China in September alone, 33 of which caused the deaths of 65 people.
Meanwhile, the 33 deadly disasters also left 30 other people missing, and 28 people injured, a report released Tuesday by the China Institute of Geo-Environment Monitoring (CIGEM) said.
These disasters also caused direct economic losses worth 343 million yuan (51.5 million U.S. dollars), the CIGEM report said.
The CIGEM is an institute directly under the Ministry of Land and Resources.
The report said the number of geological disasters in September was slightly larger than that in the same period last year, but casualties, the number of people that remained missing, and the economic losses all saw big increases year on year.
A total of 771 geological disasters were recorded in September last year, which left 28 people dead, 4 missing, and 28 others injured, CIGEM data show.
Tuesday's report also noted that major geological disasters in September were all triggered by heavy rains.
