Rescuers are digging through debris to reach people believed to be trapped in a car that was buried in a landslide in east China's Lishui City, Zhejiang Province, Tuesday.

The number of people in the car was unknown, said a rescue spokesman.

Two excavators are also working at the scene.

The landslide hit a sector of the Yinchang road, which links Lishui City and neighboring Jinyun County, at about 2:30 p.m., the spokesman said.

No casualties have yet been reported.

An estimated 2,000 cubic meters of debris covered 80 meters of road below, said the spokesman.

The biggest rocks weighed 2 to 3 tonnes and the debris was up to 5 meters deep.
