Mountain torrents have trapped more than 100 people in a remote valley since Thursday after heavy rains hit northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.
Rescuers managed to reach the site in Kuche County, of Aksu, at 1:26 a.m. Friday despite difficult traffic conditions after rains and floods stranded more than 100 residents and tourists in the area at about 2 p.m. Thursday.
It is still unclear whether the floods had caused any casualties.
Floods have inundated many roads and cut off telecommunications in the area, causing difficulties for the rescue efforts.
The rescue headquarters is ready to launch the rescue campaign despite continuing rain and is calculating how many people will need to be evacuated from the area.
