The dignity of people arrested in a widespread crackdown on prostitution should be respected, according to a notice from the Ministry of Public Security cited in the Dahe Newspaper Monday.
The move comes after a number of incidents where police used questionable methods in the crackdown campaign launched by the ministry on June 22.
In one case in Guangdong province, police released a photo of a suspected prostitute, barefoot and tied by a rope.
And in Hubei province, the personal information of prostitutes and their clients was posted in public.
The notice states that public security authorities should implement the laws and regulations evenhandedly and legitimately and guarantee the personal dignity of criminals during anti-prostitution activities.
