Local prosecutors have approved the arrest of nine engineers and technicians charged with being liable for a fatal flooding of a coal mine in northern China's Shanxi Province, the prosecutors said Wednesday.

The nine arrested are Jiang Shijie, Cao Kuixing, Zhang Junwei, Chang Shikun, Zou Dashan, Jia Jianyong, Wu Donghong, Ge Tingfu and Wang Yi.

They were allegedly responsible for neglecting signs of flooding and failing to take proper measures before the Wangjialing Coal Mine was flooded on March 28. The accident killed 38 miners and incurred 50 million yuan (7.33 million U.S. dollars) in direct economic losses.

A total of 115 miners were rescued alive April 5 after being trapped underground for more than a week.
