Cathay Pacific flight safe after bomb hoax

A Cathay Pacific flight from Hong Kong to Vancouver landed safely at the Vancouver Int'l Airport Saturday at about 1:35 p.m. local time (2035 GMT), following a bomb hoax, said the company in a press release.
Cathay Pacific confirmed that the Vancouver Airport Authority had earlier received an anonymous bomb threat regarding CX838, which was en route from Hong Kong to Vancouver with 283 passengers and 14 crew members aboard.
As a precaution, two Canadian military jets escorted the CX838, which involves an A340 aircraft, to land at the airport.
According to Cathay Pacific, CX838 was parked at a remote secure area of the airport for a thorough security search and further screening of the baggage on board after landing.
The aircraft has now been cleared by the Vancouver airport and security authorities for departing for Hong Kong as flight CX839. The departure time has been delayed from 06:05 a.m. to 10:34 a.m. Hong Kong time.
The spokesperson from Hong Kong Airport Authority told Xinhua that they received a phone call about the bomb threat at around 03: 00 a.m. Hong Kong time and set up a meeting with the security department of the Hong Kong International Airport, Cathay Pacific and the police following due procedures. All parties considered the situation safe after evaluation.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police are conducting an investigation into the bomb hoax, said Cathay Pacific, giving no further comments.
