China to honor outstanding workers

The Chinese is to honor 2,985 outstanding workers from grass-roots levels and at the forefront of specific industries.
A statement released Thursday by the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee said the model workers, of whom 85 percent were CPC members, were from fields such as agriculture, manufacturing, construction, transport, art and culture.
The winners would receive benefits such as financial awards, free regular health exams and holidays.
From 1950 to 2005, the CPC Central Committee and the State Council held 13 nationwide conferences at which 25,262 outstanding individual workers were honored, said the statement.
The workers, including 582 farmers, will be honored April 27 at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
