Deputy to city People's Congress detained in SW China's mob crackdown

A real-estate tycoon and a deputy of southwest China's Chongqing municipal People's Congress, has been detained on gang-related crimes.

The detention was approved at a meeting of chairmen of the standing committee of the Chongqing People's Congress on Feb. 3, sources with the standing committee said Thursday.

Chongqing Public Security Bureau started investigating Wang Neng, chairman of Chongqing Yuxi Bandao Limited, in October 2009, after receiving tip-offs accusing Wang being involved in gang crimes

Police have gained evidence indicating Wang's involvement in crimes including blackmailing, illegally selling guns, forcing deals, and intentional injury after 3 months of investigation, sources said.

The investigation of Wang is ongoing.
