A local official from East China's Anhui province has been reported for corruption by his ex-wife and son out of revenge because he had an extramarital affair, a local newspaper reported yesterday.
Zhang Yanying and her 17-year-old son, Liu Zhenquan, locked people out of the office of her ex-husband, Liu Jianghui, for eight days during the Spring Festival.
They were attempting to safeguard three safes filled with evidence alleging corruption. Liu Jianghui is the director of Dangshan county's bureau of housing management.
In the past week, Zhang distributed more than 100 letters to people on the street, alleging Liu's corruption. She also delivered the letter to governmental departments.
"We used to be poor. I felt I was being cheated when my husband wanted to get rid of me when our economic situation was getting better," Zhang was quoted by Xin'an Evening Newspaper yesterday.
Liu left the couple's home on Feb 8, when his wife was busy dealing with her father's funeral.
Police found cash, savings, a shopping card, a laptop, jewelry and genuine antiques in two of the safes in Liu's office on Saturday.
"We have kicked off a multi-department investigation and will not harbor any official from crime," Zhang Xianggen, secretary of the county's Party committee, told Xin'an Evening Newspaper yesterday.
"Liu is accepting our inspection. He had clarified some sources of his money," Yang Jinsong, secretary of the county's discipline inspection commission, was quoted in the report yesterday.
The discipline inspection commission will give an result of the investigation in a few days, he said.
Six years ago, "my mother took care of my father when he was very sick, but he asked her for a divorce after he recovered," the son said in the report letter.
"I hope my parents' marriage can be patched up and I want a harmonious family," he said.
"I hope my father will be removed from his current post as he become a bad husband and father after becoming a senior official," he added.
Though Zhang didn't want to divorce her husband, their marriage finally ended in 2005 under an agreement that he had to continue living with her and their son.
"He had an affair with other woman in 2002. He made that agreement with me as he wanted to divorce me smoothly because he was competing for an important post in a bureau at that time," the wife said.
But Liu continued to beat Zhang in front of their son, and Zhang tried to commit suicide several times.
Liu argued he had a new girlfriend in 2007 only after his divorce, and denied all the accusations of corruption in the report, local media reported.
