A million volunteers in Beijing will participate in guaranteeing security, communications and celebration activities during the People's Republic of China's 60th National Day anniversary on Oct.1.
A total of 800,000 volunteers will take to the streets and communities of the capital city to safeguard security during the holidays, officials said Friday.
Another 30,000 will patrol and provide guidance and translation services in bus stations and subway systems. The remainder will work around Tian'anmen Square, museums, parks and other sites of public gatherings, officials said.
China will hold a huge gathering in Tian'anmen Square on October 1 when Chinese President Hu Jintao will give a keynote speech. A military parade and mass pageant will follow and proceed along Chang'an Avenue.
