Politburo of 17th CPC Central Committee meets the press

The 16th National Congress of the Communist Party of China closed on November 14, 2002. The meeting elected 198 full members and 158 alternate members to the new CPC Central Committee, and 121 members to the new Central Commission for Discipline Inspection. The following day, the 16th CPC Central Committee held it first plenum to elect full and alternate members of its Politburo. Hu Jintao was elected General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee.
