General Secretary Hu Jintao's report, establishing the Scientific Outlook on Development as the Party's Guiding Ideology, lays the foundation for future reforms in China, reforms that will bring about a moderately prosperous society.
In a press conference on Friday evening, held in the Press Center of the 18th CPC National Congress, officials commented on the highlights and contributions of Hu Jintao's report on Theoretical Innovation.
Executive Vice-president of the Central Party School, Li Jingtian said the report sets, for the first time, new requirements for building a moderately prosperous society. These requirements are based on the "Five in One arrangement" - an overall arrangement for economic, political, cultural, social and ecological civilization constructions. He also gave an explanation of the report given by President Hu on the future of the party in China."
Li Jingtian, Executive Vice-President, Central Party School, said, "For some time people both in China and the rest of the world have been eager to know what kind of path the CPC will take. This report has given a clear answer. I think to follow a path of socialism with Chinese characteristics means we will not follow the old and rigid closed-door policy or any attempt to abandon socialism and take an erroneous path. We need to do three things -- to follow the path of socialism with Chinese characteristics, which refers to the practice we are undertaking; to follow the theories of socialism, and the socialist system with Chinese characteristics, which provides the guiding thought and fundamental guarantee to achieving our goals."
