Chinese shares opened slightly up on Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index, which covers both A and B shares, up 0.09 percent to 1,938.97 at the opening.
The smaller Shenzhen index was down 0.38 percent to open at 6,769.6 points.
World stock markets rose Tuesday amid relatively positive corporate news, particularly from the ailing British retailing sector, and despite some dismal US economic data.
