The yuan rose against the United States dollar last week as the US economy slowed in the third quarter.
The yuan ended at 6.8258 against the US dollar on Friday, according to the China Foreign Exchange Trade System. The currency ended 6.8433 at the end of the previous week.
The Chinese and US central banks lowered their interest rates last week. Data last Thursday showed US gross domestic product for the third quarter of this year slipped 0.3 percent year on year, the worst performance since the third quarter of 2001.
China International Capital Co Ltd forecast that the yuan's appreciation against a basket of currencies will slow in 2009.
