All articles are visually monitored when received, stored and sent by the Beijing Olympic Logistics Center in order to ensure safety and accuracy, said Li Yanling, vice director in charge of the Logistics Department of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG).
The Beijing Olympic Logistics Center consists of four warehouses with a total area of 210,000 square meters. During the Olympics, its team of 716 people will process over 3 million items of equipments for competitions, weighing over 750,000 tons. The logistics costs of the Olympics will amount to around 43.3 billion yuan.
Taking safety and accuracy into consideration, the Beijing Olympic Logistics Center has put in place an "Olympic Logistics Information Platform for Intelligent Visual Monitoring", including a visual warehouse management system, a visual monitoring system for goods on the way, and a system for enquiries. The visual monitoring of the key processes of receiving, storing, sending, tracking and tracing goods optimizes the transport routes and vehicle usage.
Olympic logistics work started well before the Games. The Beijing Olympic Logistics Center has been operating since March 2007.
