Individual income tax threshold raised

China formally raises its monthly individual income tax levy threshold from the former 1,600 yuan, or about US$225, to 2,000 yuan (US$281)on Saturday, according to a law amendment adopted at the end of last year.

The Xinhua News Agency reported China's top legislature adopted the law amendment on December 29 and it went into effect as of March 1, 2008.
