Chinese share prices fall drastically

Chinese share prices nosedived on Thursday after a timid rebound on the previous trading day, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index closing at 5,330.02 points, down 4.85 percent.

 

The Shenzhen Component Index on the smaller bourse in Shenzhen ended at 17,465.46 points, down 4.21 percent.

 

The combined daily transaction volume on the two exchanges stood at 128.2 billion yuan (US$17.2 billion), up from the 112.58 billion yuan (US$15.1 billion) on Wednesday.
