China is satisfied with the results of the 18th Economic Leaders' Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum, Chinese delegation spokesman Ma Zhaoxu said in Yokohama, Japan, on Sunday.
Prior to the conclusion of the two-day meeting, Ma told reporters that APEC leaders focused on the theme of "Change and Action" and held in-depth discussions on growth strategy for the Asia-Pacific region, human security, regional economic integration, assessment of achievement of Bogor Goals, the Doha round of WTO talks and APEC future development.
The APEC leaders reached broad consensus and achieved rich, practical and substantial results at the meeting, he said.
The proposal of advancing economies in the Asia-Pacific region toward balanced, inclusive, sustainable, innovative and secure growth set the direction for economic development of the region, he said.
During the meeting, APEC members assessed the progress of five developed economies and several developing economies in achieving Bogor Goals of free and open trade and investment, pointing out the direction for further advancing APEC trade and investment facilitation, said Ma.
The APEC leaders proposed to establish, step by step, an Asia-Pacific free trade zone through 10 (nations of ASEAN) Plus Three (Japan, China and South Korea) and other regional free trade frameworks to provide impetus for regional economic integration, the spokesman said.
The leaders also reached important consensus on such topics as safeguarding food security and enhancing cooperation in disaster prevention and reduction, he added.
The Chinese spokesman noted that on the sidelines of the APEC meeting, Chinese President Hu Jintao held a series of bilateral talks and exchanged views with leaders of other members on bilateral relations and strengthening cooperation among APEC economies.
President Hu also held talks with Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan on the sidelines of the APEC meeting, Ma said, adding that Hu gave a comprehensive explanation of China's principled position and views on improving and developing Sino-Japanese relations.
The 18th Economic Leaders' Meeting of the APEC forum opened here Saturday afternoon. APEC is the premier forum for facilitating economic growth, cooperation, trade and investment in the Asia-Pacific region.
