Beijing enterprises are to receive enhanced subsidies to encourage them to hire jobless people. Combined social insurance and wage subsidies will reach as much as 10,000 yuan (US$1,460) per year for each person employed.
The Beijing Municipal Labor and Social Security Bureau announced the measures on November 23, 2008. The amount of subsidy available will depend on the category of person employed.
The bureau said the number of unemployed people hired by Beijing enterprises should increase substantially in 2009. The subsidies are among a range of policies aimed at achieving a better than 50 percent reemployment rate among the capital's jobless.
