For several months, Joe Peterson, corporate vice president of
Microsoft, and his team have been promoting Software Licensing and
Protection Services (SLPS) to Chinese enterprises.
Although Microsoft's promotion activities adopted a low profile,
they caused a stir among Chinese software companies and netizens.
Some netizens thought that SLPS, as a technology that could put an
end to piracy, reflects Microsoft's ambition to create a system in
China to protect the software industry's intellectual property
rights.
Microsoft developed SLPS in July after it acquired Secured
Dimensions this January. Sources from Microsoft said that
enterprises that adopted SLPS saw their piracy losses fall 5
percent.
