Japan's largest automaker, Toyota Motor Corp. said Wednesday it has revised up its domestic car sales target for 2012 by 100,000 units to 1.63 million units.
The revision was made on expectation of sales growth following the government's plan to resume subsidies for those who buy eco- friendly cars.
The company's global vehicle sales target for this year has therefore increased to 8.58 million units.
Toyota's sales in Japan fell to around 1.2 million units in 2011.
If the 2012 project realized, it would be the first time for the domestic sales figure to exceed 1.6 million units since 2006, when the carmaker sold about 1.69 million units.
