U. S. stocks ended moderately higher on Thursday, erasing mid-day losses, as European successful bond auctions boosted sentiment.

Both the blue-chip Dow and the broader S&P 500 gained about 0.2 percent and the tech-heavy Nasdaq jumped more than 0.5 percent.
