Chinese shares fell at midday Thursday on speculation that the country's central bank would raise interest rates this weekend to help stem inflation.
The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index fell 0.74 percent, or 21.16 points, to 2,827.39, while the Shenzhen Component Index closed at 12,472.64, down 142.77 points, or 1.13 percent at midday.
