China's housing authority said Tuesday that up to 90 percent of this year' s planned low-income housing and shantytown renovation projects in China have been started during the first nine months of 2010.
According to a statement posted on the website of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development (MOHURD), 5.2 million units of new low-income housing and renovated shantytowns have been under construction, accounting for 90 percent of the full-year plan of 5.8 million units.
In May, the MOHURD demanded all local authorities assure that the full-year' s goal of low-income housing construction be accomplished.
China planned to build three million apartments for low-income families, and renovate 2.8 million units in urban shantytown areas in 2010, according to MOHURD.
