Chinese shares rise before the 3-day vacation

Chinese equities rose Friday, boosted by hikes in commodities prices.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index on the Shanghai Stock Exchange inched up 0.33 percent, or 10.54 points, to end at 3,157.96 points. The Shenzhen Component Index on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange closed at 12,767.86 points, up 81.79 points, or 0.64 percent.

Combined turnover was 265.58 billion yuan (38.88 billion U.S. dollars), down from 277.60 billion yuan on the previous trading day.

Gainers outnumbered losers by 483 to 370 in Shanghai and 492 to 394 in Shenzhen.
