Chinese shares closed up midday Tuesday with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 1.05 percent, or 30.96 points, to 2,972.32 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index gained 0.96 percent, or 115.46 points, to 12,104.57 points.
Gold miners led the rise. Zijin Mining Group Co., China's largest gold producer, gained 7.84 percent to 8.67 yuan (1.27 U.S. dollars). Shandong Gold Mining Co. climbed 6.89 percent to 67.47 yuan.
