China's export of mechanical and electrical products would see a moderate growth in 2010 thanks to the gradually improving external demand, an official with China's Ministry of Commerce (MOC) said Tuesday.

Zhang Ji, director of the department of mechanic, electronic and hi-tech industry under the MOC, forecasted that the export of mechanical and electrical products to rise by 10 percent this year, but the value of export would remain less than the pre-crisis level in 2007.

Customs Statistics showed that China's exports of mechanical and electrical products for soared 26.9 percent last month from a year ago to 78.1 billion U.S. dollars.

Zhang Ji noted that the growth was partly due to a lower comparison base a year ago when exports were badly hit by the global financial crisis.

China's mechanical and electrical exports shrank 13.4 percent in 2009from a year earlier to 713.1 billion U.S. dollars, according to the statistics released by the General Administration of Customs.
