Chery Automobile Co, China's largest maker of own-brand cars, and Chrysler LLC are in talks about forming an auto making venture to tap demand in the world's second-biggest vehicle market.
"Chrysler wants to deepen our current cooperation," Chery spokesman Jin Yibo said by phone yesterday. "Our options include setting up a venture." He declined to elaborate. A domestic venture would build on a deal agreed last year under which Chery will supply cars to Chrysler for sale in overseas markets. Volkswagen AG, the largest overseas car maker in China, and other auto makers are expanding in China as the country's economic growth spurs car sales.
