China Telecom Corp. held a ceremony in Tokyo on Monday to mark
the establishment of its subsidiary company in Japan, the China
Telecom Japan Operation Ltd.
The subsidiary, entirely owned by China Telecom, will carry out
all-around cooperation with Japanese operators to push for further
development of electronic communication and Internet service
between China and Japan, the company said.
The establishment of the subsidiary, out of China Telecom's
global strategy, is to assist the company's international plan in
the long run and to set up an outpost for the company's operation
in Japan, said Zhao Jidong, senior vice chairman of China
Telecom.
The 2008 Beijing Olympics will boost demand for digital
transmission and communication in Japan, and China Telecom's new
subsidiary is aimed at making Japanese customers satisfied, Zhao
said.
The Japan subsidiary is China Telecom's fourth branch out of
Chinese mainland following that in Hong Kong, the United States and
Europe.
