China produced 30.56 million laptops in the first five months of
2007, accounting for 63 percent of computer production. The
proportion is three percentage points higher than last year.
Statistics from the Ministry of Information Industry showed that
more than 15.6 billion integrated circuits were produced in the
first five months, up 12.5 percent on last year.
High-end color TVs were a hot item. Almost 5 million -- mainly
liquid crystal sets -- were manufactured in the period, up 66
percent on last year and accounting for 17 percent of all the color
TVs produced.
With technologies and consumer tastes continually evolving,
fewer last-generation electronic products were produced.
The production of telephones dropped by eight percent from last
year while fax machines dived by 27 percent.
