The Enjoy Art Museum at the 798 Art Zone kicks off its week-long art festival to commemorate Youth Day.
Chinese people are fond of various kinds of holidays and celebrations, with popular pastimes during festivals including going to the cinema or simply spending the day in front of the TV or computer. With the rise of the art zones in the city, visiting exhibitions and appreciating artworks has become another option for holiday revelers. The Enjoy Art Museum at the 798 Art Zone kicks off its week-long art festival Thursday to commemorate Youth Day.
Now in its fourth year, it will feature paintings, sculptures, videos, photographs and installations. All are by artists mainly from the post-70s and -80s generations. Yue Yang, aged in her 20s, is bringing two of her latest oil paintings to the May 4 International Art festival, namely White Night and Scenery In My Mind.
"I've heard of the festival, but have never had the chance to participate in it. I've submitted two artworks that will both be showcased at the festival," said Yue, who has mainly concentrated on oil paintings since graduating from the Xi'an Academy of Fine Arts. "The two paintings I am exhibiting were created around 2010. Personally, I prefer White Night, which is more mature."
Allowing young artists to showcase their new attempts in the art world is one of the main purposes of the festival, said the event's organizers, Hongwan International Art Center and Contemporary Art magazine. "We will also hold talks between artists and critics," said Xiao Jia, one of the organizers. There will also be a poetry appreciation event on Saturday afternoon in the museum.
