The 54th Grammy Awards are being held this weekend and Kanye West is leading the nominations' race.

The American rapper is up for seven awards including song of the year for hit single "All of the Lights."

Controversially, however his popular album "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy," hasn't been nominated for best album.

British singer Adele looks set to clean up with six nominations, including song of the year for "Rolling in the deep" and album of the year for her best-seller "21."

Bruno Mars and the Foo Fighters also have six nominations a piece and will fight it out with Adele in the album of the year category.

Rihanna's dance album "Loud" and Lady Gaga's "Born This Way," round out the nominations for best album.

This year the academy has shaved down the number of categories, culling niche awards such as best Cajun music album.

The Grammys will be handed out Sunday in Los Angeles.
