Zhang Ziyi, Ge You top 'Beautiful 50' list

Chinese film stars Zhang Ziyi and Ge You were named "People of the Year" in the Beijing News' "50 Most Beautiful Chinese People" issue on Wednesday. The list named Li Yuchun "Female Singer of the Year" and Huang Xiaoming as "All around Entertainer of the Year."

Taiwan actress and model Lin Chiling, prestigious veteran actor Pu Cunxi, "Struggle" stars Tong Dawei and Ma Yili and "Dwelling Narrowness" star Wen Zhang also made the list, which is published annually.

Zhang Ziyi was also honored as a "Beauty of Strong Will" for her role in the AIDS-themed film "Love for Life" directed by Gu Changwei.

Zhang said filming "Love for Life" was one of the very few times in her life she was so deeply devoted to and moved by a role.

Though he frequently wins domestic and international film awards, Ge You made the "Most Beautiful People" list for the first time this year. "I think this is more for my inner beauty," he joked at the awarding ceremony. "I'm wondering if I can someday make a balance between my inner beauty and my looks, just like Huang Xiaoming does."

Since 2005, the 50 Most Beautiful Chinese People issue has been published annually by the Beijing News, a mainstream daily newspaper based in Beijing. A panel of prestigious artists, directors and media insiders select the 50 most outstanding Chinese entertainers based on public image, career achievements, personal cultivation and charity work.
