A microblog under the name "Panda Po" has been registered for the main character from Kung Fu Panda 2. This is the first microblog in the world that has been registered for an individual panda.
As of Monday evening, the microblog had nearly 1,000 followers, although only eight entries had yet been released.
The character Po in Kung Fu Panda 2 was based on a panda named 'A Bao' (阿宝) in Chinese.
Raymond Zibach, the movie's production designer, said that three years ago his team went to Chengdu and saw the several-month-old panda named Abao at the Chengdu Research Base for Giant Panda Breeding. The humorous, jolly panda left a deep impression on Raymond and also served as a source of inspiration, the Sichuan Daily reported.
Po, outside of the world of cinema, has shown his happy life through his photos on the microblog. One photo features him in a warm embrace with Kung Fu Panda 2’s director, Jennifer Yuh Nelson, Jeffrey Katzenberg, CEO of DreamWorks Animation and the producer, Melissa Cobb.
Fifteen lucky followers of the microblog will be rewarded with a trip to the Chengdu Research Base for Giant Panda Breeding to get close contact with the real-life "Po."
Raymond disclosed that there are already plans for a Kung Fu Panda 3, the paper reported.
