Well-known stylist Zing, chief editor of Chinese Bazaar Su Mang and chief editor of iLook Hong Huang, all make cameos, playing themselves. Painter Yue Minjun also gets a guernsey, with many of his works appearing throughout the film.
Beijing's top art districts, luxury venues and exclusive social clubs are included in the film, with Luan and Wang visiting an art gallery to see Yue Minjun's exhibition and Zoe's villa located in the Song Zhuang Art Village.
"Speaking in fashion's perspective, the film may not be equally comparable to Hollywood fashion blockbusters with its limited budget, but Color Me Love is undoubtedly the best in the fashion film genre in China, with the latest and best fashion collections from Europe and China, top art direction and luxurious mise-en-scene," film critic Shen Le told the Global Times.
While revealing the snobbish, shallow and pretentious side of the fashion world, Chen said that he wanted to focuses on people's social lives. "We are all social animals. The film aims to tell only real beauty; true love and sincerity are the fashion spirit," he said.
Color Me Love was originally scheduled for release last month. According to media reports, the film was delayed due to a sex scene.
"We are cutting some kissing scenes as well as a few last minute post-production changes, finally it is qualified to show on cinema," Chen said.
