The film is a heart-warming yet melancholic story about a struggling family of four, told through the eyes of the younger son.
The film was one of the biggest winners at the 29th Hong Kong Film Awards in April, earning best actor for Simon Yam, best screenplay for Alex Law, best newcomer for Aarif Lee, and best original film song.
Internationally, it garnered a Crystal Bear for Best Film at this year's Berlin International Film Festival.
Nominees for the 83rd Academy Awards will be announced on January 25, 2011. The awards ceremony is slated for February 27.
Doze Niu's film Monga is seeking candidacy for the best foreign-language film Oscar on behalf of Taiwan films. The Chinese mainland selection is yet to be announced.
