Malan is not only a common name in China, but also the name of a magical flower. The malan flower was part the childhood memory of three generations for more than fifty years.

The play in the repertoire of China Children's Art Theatre is now being staged free to audiences in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

New packaging puts a new twist on the old story of Malan Flower. Many techniques are used to make the old story attractive to today's audience, but there is one part of the story that will never change, that the Malan Flower will only bloom for industrious people.

The musical has been part of the China Children's Art Theatre repertoire since it was founded in 1956. Now debuted in China's northwestern Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, the show is part of the theatre's charity tour to share their performance with audiences who rarely have an opportunity to watch such a show.

An audience member said, "I learned a lot from this story. The most impressive thing is that one should be strong and persistent to overcome difficulties."

"The actors give vivid performance of those small animals, even more vivid than the real animals on TV. I hope there will be more chances to watch a show like this," said an audience member.

Zhou Yuyuan, head of China Children's Art Theatre, said, "It's our mission to share our performance with a wider audience, especially those who live in China's west. Xinjiang is our first stop to stage the award-winning piece Malan Flower."

Along with the classic piece, the theatre will also stage other shows tailored for children.

The charity tour is part of the event initiated by the country's Ministry of Culture to share the cultural opulence with a wider audience.
