The 48th New York Film Festival announced lineup on Monday as Clint Eastwood's "Hereafter" was chosen to serve as the closing night film.
The lineup provided by the Film Society of Lincoln Center on Monday offered the main-slate features of the 48th New York Film Festival, which runs from Sept. 24 to Oct. 10 with screenings at Walter Reade Theater and Alice Tully Hall on the Lincoln Center campus.
Clint Eastwood's supernatural thriller "Hereafter" starring Matt Damon and intertwining lives of people connected to experiences of death or afterlife will close the annual festival.
The festival previously announced U.S. director David Fincher's "The Social Network," about the rise and fall of the founders of Facebook, will open the festival and the Shakespearean romance " The Tempest," starring Helen Mirren, will serve as the centerpiece film.
The total 28 films of the primary slate represent 16 countries, including Thailand's Apichatpong Weerasethakul, whose "Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives" won the Palme d'Or at this year's Cannes Film Festival and the 101-year-old Portuguese master Manoel de Oliveira's "The Strange Case of Angelica."
The New York Film Festival, which traditionally emphasizes the art of cinema over Hollywood-style, star-filled premieres and shows fewer movies than other festivals, includes main slate selections along with special events, panel discussions and the experimental film showcase.
