CJ7: The Cartoon, set to premiere July 9, unveiled its first trailer and two official posters Sunday in Shanghai.
As the animated version of Stephen Chow's 2008 hit comedy CJ7, CJ7: The Cartoon loosely adopts the original plot of how a father and a son accidentally pick up an alien named CJ7.
The film has a newly developed story line during which CJ7 protects the environment and saves the earth.
Producer Chow said the film was not to simply make the audience laugh, but to spread the message of environmental protection and caring for our planet.
Cecilia Cheung, who made her screen debut in Chow's King of Comedy, performed the film's theme song with her son Lucas Tse at the trailer's unveiling. The appearance was Cheung's first in public since giving birth in 2007.
