Corey Haim |
The 1980s' teen idol Corey Haim had died of an accidental overdose on Wednesday morning. He was 38.
The Canadian actor was pronounced dead at Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, California at 2:15 am local time (2215 GMT) after he was rushed to the complex. Although claiming Haim had died of an apparent overdose, police said an autopsy will determine the cause of death.
Haim's mother Judy reportedly called 911 after she found her son collapsed and paramedics arrived at the apartment she shares with Haim at 12:53 am.
Police learned of Haim's death when hospital staff alerted authorities later, Sgt. Frank Albarren of the Los Angeles Police Department's North Hollywood Station said.
"It was an apparent overdose. Unknown what type of medication," he said.
Judy said that her son was living with her and helping her as she battles breast cancer.
"He was a good boy. I'm devastated by his death," she said.
Born in Toronto in 1971, Haim made his first film "Firstborn" in 1984. Two year later, he shot to fame with his appearance in the popular movie "Lucas." He became more popular after he acted in vampire film "The Lost Boys" in 1987. More recently, he collaborated with Corey Feldman in the reality show "The Two Coreys," which aired on the A&E Network in 2007 and 2008.
However, the talented actor had long been plagued by drug abuse. At the time of his death, Haim was attempting a return to acting and had at least nine projects in various stages of production.
