Ye Shaolan to star in "Homecoming of a Phoenix" [Global Times] |
Renowned Peking Opera master Mei Baojiu will lead a stellar cast and present "Homecoming of a Phoenix" on Sunday at Mei Lanfang Theater, a must-see for hardcore fans of Peking Opera.
Premiering in 1929 in Beijing, the play is one of the classical repertoires of the Mei Lanfang school of Peking Opera.
Set in the late Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), the story is a lighthearted romantic comedy depicting the love story between two young couples.
Established artists Mei Baojiu, Shang Changrong and Ye Shaolan will be joined by the top younger generation performers including Yu Kuizhi, Li Shengsu and Li Hongtu, offering a rare treat to opera fans.
