Acclaimed tenor Zhang Feng from the Shanghai Opera House will perform in a spectacular charity concert on Saturday at the Shanghai Oriental Art Center.

The "Greatest Love under Blue Sky" New Year's Charity will also feature well-known singers Tan Jing and Zhang Li.

Tenor Zhang will collaborate with the Shanghai Opera House's philharmonic orchestra conducted by Zhang Guoyong, director of the Shanghai Opera House. More than 130 performers from the philharmonic and chorus will take part.

All proceeds will be donated to the Shanghai Charity Foundation's Sunlight Fund to help the education of needy young people.

Program includes "The Toreador's Song" from "Carmen," "Tang Bailao" from the Chinese opera "The White-Haired Girl" and arias from the French opera "Camille."

Bulgarian-born singer, opera director and choreographer Valentina Simeonova will present "Si, Mi Chiamano Mimi" from "La Boheme" and songs from "The Barber of Seville."

Zhang will collaborate with Tan to present the Chinese classic "Velvet Flowers" from the movie "Little Flower" (1979).

"The program is classical, enjoyable and of the highest quality," says Zhang. "I hope it will be enjoyed by the audience who will donate to charity with their warm heart."

Zhang won the first prize twice in the Budapest International Music Competition in 1998 and 2000. He held his solo concert at Carnegie Hall in 2001, and toured Italy in 2008. He was invited to present the Italian National Song at the National Day Ceremony in Italy in 2006.

Zhang was born into a worker's family in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

"Without assistance from our whole society, I would never have had the chance to study abroad, perform internationally and achieve success," says Zhang. "It's time for me to give back to society."

Zhang gave three charity performances in Wenchuan, Sichuan Province, which was devastated by an earthquake in May 2008.
