Tennis: Zheng Jie Takes Crown in Stockholm
Adjust font size:

China's Zheng Jie beat Anastasia Myskina of Russia in the women's final of the Nordea Nordic Light Open, 6-4, 6-1 in Stockholm yesterday.

The match started outdoors but after just two games the rain stopped play. And the match was moved to indoor facilities at the Royal Tennis Hall. A big section of the crowd made the one-mile walk between the two venues.

Zheng continued playing the way she had during the week and seemed confident of her game. The 23-year-old Chinese was consistent and had Myskina running all over the court. The title was Zheng's third of her career and the second this year.

However, along with compatriot Yan Zi, Zheng lost the doubles final against Jarmila Gajdosova and Eva Birnerova. The Chinese duo won the first set easily 6-0 but then the Czechoslovakian duo turned on the style. The following sets went 6-4, 6-2 to Gajdosova and Birnerova.
