The Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC)
Central Committee passed a resolution on Monday stating that the
Sixteenth CPC Central Committee will hold its Sixth Session in
October.
The main topics of the session will include the hearing of a
report on the work of the politbureau and a study of the building a
harmonious socialist society issue, according to a press
release.
Those who attended Monday's meeting discussed the country's
current economic situation, which was presided over by General
Secretary of the CPC Central Committee Hu Jintao.
The participants agreed that the building of a harmonious
socialist society is a major strategic task proposed by the Party
in view of the general layout of the socialist cause with Chinese
characteristics, and the general situation of building a
comprehensive well-off society, which reflects the internal demands
for building an affluent, democratic, civilized, harmonious and
modernized socialist country as well as the common aspiration of
the Party and the people.
They proposed that the building of a harmonious socialist
society be made a more prominent issue.
"Our country now enjoys a harmonious society in general, but
there do exist quite a few contradictions and problems that have
affected the social harmony," they agreed, urging all Party members
to maintain cool heads and to be prepared for any possible danger
in times of safety.
China's economic situation is sound in general; maintaining the
trends of a relatively fast growth, relatively low consumer price
levels, and a relatively good economic performance. But challenges
include an excessively fast growth of investment, an excessive
consumption of energy, and increasing pressure on the
environment.
The meeting urged all local governments and departments to
seriously study and implement all kinds of principles, policies and
arrangements made by the central authorities, so as to continue to
promote a stable, relatively fast, and coordinated development of
the national economy, and ensure a good beginning for development
during its 11th Five-Year Plan period (2006-2010).
